We’ve carefully researched our vacations in Sweden to deliver a stylish Scandinavian getaway that doesn’t cost the earth. When you’re looking for a European destination that has something a bit different to offer, visiting Malmö and Stockholm with Weekender Breaks will serve up so many highlights.
For example, Malmö has beaches, parks, museums, churches and castles to help fill your days with fun and wonder. Swedish vacations to Stockholm involve island-hopping, Old Town charm, canal tours, ferry rides and exploring hidden alleys and courtyards, among many other things.
Trying new foods on your Swedish vacation won’t disappoint. With delicacies including meatballs, pickled herring, smoked pork sausages and yellow pea soup served with pancakes, your taste buds are in for a tremendous treat.
Magnificent Malmö
Malmö is Sweden’s third-largest city and has a host of things to see and do without having to travel far. We’ll start by looking at its history. Malmö Castle was built in the 16th century and is a Renaissance-style fortress. It’s now part of a complex that also houses the Malmö Art Museum and the Malmö Natural History Museum, so there’s plenty to do in this part of the city.
Vacations to this part of Sweden are effortlessly relaxing. For example, there are many parks where you can take a well-earned break from sightseeing and plan the next part of your day. We’d recommend visiting Kungsparken, Pildammsparken and Slottsträdgården to enjoy a coffee, bite to eat or simply gather your thoughts in beautiful surroundings.
When you’re looking for something a bit different, Malmö’s Disgusting Food Museum is an entertaining and interesting way to spend some time. Here, you’ll find 80 of the world’s most questionable foods you can smell or taste if you dare, including well-aged shark meat from Iceland and local fermented herring.
Your Swedish vacation in Malmö is also the gateway to Denmark. Copenhagen is just over 30 minutes away via the Øresund Bridge, so you can explore a different city and country during your stay in the region.
Say hi to Stockholm
Nature, history and modern life combine seamlessly in Stockholm, Sweden’s picturesque capital. The city is made up of 14 islands and has over 50 bridges. There’s a historic Old Town called Gamla Stan with cobbled streets and plenty of welcoming places to eat and drink.
Stockholm is also home to the ABBA Museum, which provides a colorful history of the legendary band that brought us hits such as Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia.
If you’re visiting Stockholm in the summer months, Långholmen is an island with its own beach, making it a popular swimming spot with tourists and locals. Other natural attractions include a three-hour boat ride around the archipelago, where you can see more of the city and feel the sea breeze in your hair.
We’d also recommend trying an authentic Swedish sauna while you’re in Stockholm. These are a great way to unwind and rejuvenate your mind and body, so you’re raring to go for the rest of your vacation.
