Amsterdam’s thriving art and culture scene
Taking a vacation in Amsterdam is likely to amaze you at every turn. It may be a big city but has a different feel from many other European capitals. Maybe it’s the 165 canals that flow gently through it or the abundance of culture in the form of many museums. And that’s a great place to start our whistle-stop tour.
The first museum we’d recommend is Rijksmuseum, where you’ll find celebrated paintings by renowned artists such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh. As well as incredible art, there are also many historical artifacts housed here.
If you’re in the mood for viewing more art in Amsterdam, you’ll find the Van Gogh Museum close to Rijksmuseum, with many more works by one of the world’s most famous painters.
For another glimpse into the city’s past, you shouldn’t miss Anne Frank House. This wartime diarist’s story is truly remarkable and is a poignant reminder of the impact of war on families in Europe.
Amsterdam’s museums also include more quirky attractions, such as Kattenkabinet. As its name suggests, this place is dedicated to cats and specifically how they’ve influenced culture over the years. An added bonus is the venue was featured in the Ocean’s Twelve movie, so you may recognise it when you’re there.
Have fun in the fresh air
While it’s a great experience browsing the art and history in Amsterdam’s museums, there’s lots to do outdoors too. At ARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo, you’ll find creatures such as poison dart frogs, pelicans and the striking red-faced spider monkey, among many others.
Amsterdam's Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Garden) has been around since 1638 and is a fantastic oasis to explore when you’re looking to spend some time in nature away from all the city’s sights.
While they may not enjoy the same romantic reputation as Venice, cruising Amsterdam’s canals when the sun’s shining is a fantastic way to get around and see more of the city’s awesome architecture.
Kimbos Fun Forest is a great place for family adventures, with rope courses and ziplines giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the trees and try something different.
Book your Amsterdam vacation now, and look forward to exploring this dazzling Dutch city for yourself.
