Managing to encapsulate thousands of years of history into one small island, Rhodes isn’t your standard Greek island escape. The largest of the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes made its name as the location of the Colossus statue of the sun god Helios. It may be long gone, but the island isn’t short of other relics, including a Temple of Apollo, medieval Acropolis gate, and an expansive palace once belonging to the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitalier. Beyond its manmade treasures, visitors shouldn’t miss the likes of St Paul’s Bay, or family-friendly Tsambika Beach, where soft sands and shallow waters meet.
