The most southerly capital in the European Union doesn’t wont for attractions despite its small size, of just half a mile square. Chief among its attractions is St John’s Co-Cathedral, whose elaborate interior decoration is only bettered by the presence of one of Caravaggio’s most important works. Among a succession of sunny and historic squares, a short walk will also bring you to the Grand Master’s Palace, important defensive forts built by the Knights of Malta, a Siege Bell unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II, and the charming Upper Baraka Gardens, from where you can watch the firing of the noon day gun.
